Brasserie « Le Tabary's » sits on Gd Rue Mario Roustan in the heart of Sète, bringing together a lively mix of functions as a bar tabac, coffee shop, brasserie, and tobacco shop. This spot hums with the everyday rhythm of local life—residents stopping by not just for a meal but to pick up cigarettes, chat, or enjoy a quick coffee break.

Inside, the atmosphere buzzes with a distinctly "old fashioned sétois" feeling: glasses clinking, espresso cups being washed, and a casual bustle that tells you this is more a well-used local hub than a polished tourist venue. The crowd is a blend of regulars familiar with the canal views and visitors who quickly get drawn in by the authentic setting.

The kitchen offers straightforward, well-prepared dishes with a regional twist. The menu features items like Jamón Serrano paired with fresh salad and bread, hearty boulettes à la sauce Corse, and simple yet satisfying sweets such as Coupe Corse au Marron or Tarte aux Pommes. The Formule Petit Déjeuner Tartine du Dimanche makes it a comfortable spot for a relaxed weekend start. Patrons often lean toward the daily specials, which highlight fresh, seasonal ingredients without fuss.

Service here can fluctuate depending on the time of day—lunchtimes, especially, bring a palpable rush. This can mean slightly slower service and occasional lapses like long waits to order coffee or unfamiliarity with some espresso variations. Yet, the kitchen holds strong, consistently delivering flavorful mussels, burgers, and mixed tapas plates that pair well with local wines from the Hérault region.

Brasserie « Le Tabary's » is ideal for those wanting to soak in authentic Sète life, whether over a leisurely lunch or a casual coffee watching the canal activity. The best moments tend to be quieter mid-mornings or late afternoon when you can secure a window seat overlooking the water and enjoy the relaxed interplay of locals passing through.

  • Best for casual lunches, afternoon coffee breaks, or an informal dinner with classic regional flavors
  • Good spot for locals and visitors who appreciate lively but unpretentious settings
  • Expect a busy, working-class vibe with occasional service delays during peak hours
  • Bring patience during rush times, but you’ll find quality and familiarity in the food and atmosphere

Little disappointed about the service. Was a busy lunch and lots of dishes and dirty glasses on the bar counter. I waited 10 min to order a coffee and beer. I went my self to order. They didn't knew what is a espresso machiato... The place looks nice and good food menu.

My favourite place as a writer in Sète. Fabulous "old fashioned sétois atmosphere", with local people lining up to buy cigarettes, cups and glasses being banged into the dishwasher. The food is excellent and inexpensive, they really have a good cook. Just stick to the “menu du jour” (4 or 5 choices), you won't be disappointed. And it's all fresh. Just 4 stars for service, because some of the waiters could be a little more... chatty ! But they're very decent. Go there is you want the real French Bistro atmosphere with a nice view over the harbour.

If you wish to understand Sete, this busy tabac is a good place to start. I really enjoyed my lunch here. We arrived after 1pm, so the plat du jour had run out. The server was flat out clearing tables. That's a sure sign of a popular place. I recognised some of the folk we'd seen in the market. We had a great tapas mix of cheese & charcuterie. Perfect with a local Herault wine.

Typical central Sete café bar & tabac. Cosy plush yet traditional interior with lots of sheltered outdoor seating. A great vantage point from which to observe local life coming & going on the streets and canals of this authentic, dynamic and irresistibly charming port down.

The best bar/café in Sete. Me and my family love it here and go here frequently when we are in Sete in the summer holidays. Good drinks, ice creme, crêpes and good service. But we miss the ”Tabary-guy” from last summer.
